A New Home, A New Wall: Chris and His Partner's Lake District Collection

When Chris and his partner moved into their new farmstead in Corbridge, Northumberland, they brought with them a love of the Lake District, a well-trained eye for interiors — and a Buckley and Brough print they'd owned for some time.

Borrowdale had already found its place in their previous home. A sweeping panoramic view across the valley — bare winter trees, the fells rising behind, soft monochrome light — it's one of our most quietly powerful prints. For two people who know the Lakes on foot, it wasn't just a picture. It was a place they'd stood in, breathed in, and carried home.

The new farmhouse needed something to match it.

Finding the Right Companion Piece

Choosing a second print to sit alongside an existing piece is a different kind of decision. It needs to complement without competing — to share a visual language while bringing something new. Chris and his partner knew they wanted another Lake District landscape, something with the same monochrome drama and sense of scale.

We settled on Stickle Pike. Rising sharply from the Dunnerdale Fells in the southern Lake District, Stickle Pike has a distinctive, almost pyramidal profile that makes it one of the most recognisable summits in Cumbria. Our print captures it in dramatic monochrome — the rocky summit catching the light, the surrounding fells rolling away beneath a wide, cloud-streaked sky.

For walkers who know the Lakes, it's immediately, viscerally recognisable. For anyone else, it's simply a stunning landscape.

The Installation

The print was framed and delivered to the farmstead in Corbridge — and Chris wasted no time finding it the right wall.

The Difference a Picture Light Makes

One thing Chris got absolutely right was the picture light. It's a detail that transforms a fine art print from something you notice into something you can't stop looking at — and it changes the entire feel of a space as the day moves on.

During the day, a good print holds its own in natural light. But in the evening, when the overhead lights go down and the picture light comes on, something shifts. The room becomes quieter, warmer, more intimate. The light rakes gently across the surface of the print, picking out texture and tonal depth that you simply don't see in flat ambient lighting. A monochrome landscape — already rich with gradation and detail — takes on a new dimension. The fells seem to recede further. The sky deepens. The whole image breathes.

It's one of the most underrated elements of living with fine art photography. A picture light doesn't just illuminate a print — it creates atmosphere. In a hallway like Chris's, with dark panelling and warm brass fittings, the effect in the evening is exactly what you'd want from a well-considered home: calm, considered, and quietly beautiful.

For large format panoramic prints like Stickle Pike and Borrowdale, we'd always recommend a dedicated picture light. A brass or warm-metal LED fitting — as Chris has chosen here — adds warmth without competing with the image, runs cool, and won't affect the longevity of your print. It's a small investment that makes an enormous difference to how your print looks and feels, morning and evening.

Building a Collection

What Chris and his partner have done is something we love to see — building a considered collection of prints that reflect a place they genuinely love. Borrowdale and Stickle Pike share a visual language: monochrome, panoramic, rooted in the physical reality of the Lake District landscape. Together they tell a story about two people who know these fells, who've walked these ridges, and who wanted to bring that connection home.

If you're thinking about your first Buckley and Brough print — or looking for a companion piece to something you already own — we're always happy to help you find the right fit. Browse our Lake District landscape collection, or get in touch.
